About the Maker - Yu Kurosaki

Well known for his unique blade profiles and finishes, Yu Kurosaki (黑崎優) is a well known and relatively young artisan based in the town of Echizen (越前). He was awarded the title of "Traditional Craftsman" (伝統工芸士) by the Japanese government in recognition of his excellence in traditional craftsmanship.

About the Shape - Gyuto

The Gyuto (牛刀) is a type of Japanese kitchen knife that has a double-bevel blade, meaning it is sharpened on both sides. It is similar to the western-style chef’s knife, but it is usually thinner, lighter, and sharper. The name Gyuto means “cow sword” in Japanese, because it was originally used for slicing beef.

About the Series - Senko Ei

The Senko (閃光, means "Flash") Ei (鋭, means "Sharp") knife line from Yu Kurosaki is considered the most popular knife line from the blacksmith. It features a distinctive hammered finish which captures light across the blade and reflects them in all angles, hence the name "Senko".

Developed by Takefu Special Steel Company in Japan, SG2 or Super Gold 2 is a high-end stainless powdered tool steel alloy which is capable of being treated to a hardness of 64 HRC.
