About the Series - Nanairo

The Sakai Takayuki Nanairo series is a collection of Japanese-style chef's knives. The term "Nanairo" translates to "Rainbow", reflecting the vibrant, prismatic colors of the knife handles. These knives are crafted from INOX Stainless Steel AUS 8A, a Japanese-made steel known for its sharpness, durability, and rust-resistance. The combination of this steel with traditional Japanese production techniques results in a unique product offering excellent razor-sharpness and rust-resistance.

The handles of these knives are made from ABS resin, a material that is odorless, clean, antibacterial, and highly durable. They are half-rounded and octagonal, lacquered, and recall the images of Japanese tradition. These handles are also easy to grip and comfortable in the hand.

About the Steel - AUS 8A

Developed by AICHI Techno Metal in Japan, AUS 8A steel, also known as 8A, is a type of stainless steel. It’s part of the AUS series, which includes AUS 4, AUS 6, AUS 8, and AUS 10. The hardness of AUS-8A steel depends on the heat treatment process. It has a Rockwell hardness of 58-59 HRC and can reach up to 60HRC with proper heat treatment. The edge retention of the steel is influenced by its hardness. The harder the steel, the better it retains its edge. At about 59 HRC, the edge retention of AUS-8A stainless steel is considered above average.
