About the Maker - MAC

MAC Corporation is a renowned knife manufacturer. The company was established in 1965 with the aim of designing knives that are safer, sharper, lighter, and easier to use. The idea for MAC knives was conceived when the chairman, while studying in a College of Arts in Chicago, U.S.A, had a part-time job as a chef. He found the German knife he was given to be heavy, dull, and dangerous due to its pointed tip.

About the Shape - Santoku

The Santoku (三徳) is a versatile multi-use Japanese knife, famous for the translation of its name, ‘three virtues’. The three virtues are said to refer to the Santoku’s versatility in use for chopping, slicing and dicing, or the primary range of ingredients that it can be used for: fish, meat and vegetables.

About the Steel - AUS 8

Developed by AICHI Techno Metal in Japan, AUS 8 has vanadium added to increase its hardness. Typically heat-treated to 58-59 HRC.

About the Finish - Damascus

Damascus or "Modern Damascus" finish refers to the watery or wavy light and dark pattern of the metal. Suminagashi (墨流し) which literally translates to "floating ink" is another word used for the finish.
